So close…

What does your ideal boat look like and why?

I almost bought a 6hp motor for my boat today. While my transom can take the extra weight, I was concerned about the turning after a quick dry fit (the motor did not have a full range of motion). Also, I was concerned that the extra weight on the transom would make getting to plane even more difficult than it already is in my boat. And, the 2 motors side by side on the back of my boat did not look right. Maybe this is a sign that we really do need a bigger family boat?

I will be looking slowly for a bigger boat for the family. We have so many thoughts on what our next family boat might look like and we need to start researching and looking at different options. The boat that appeals to me the most and is not readily available as far as I can tell is the Hewescraft Open Fisherman. To me this seems like the way to go, because I can set it up the same way I have my current boat. However, it would be nice to have a cover so we can get out of the rain and sun some days. The issue with a covered boat is the real estate lost for the cover. With no cover, we could cast and jig from all corners of the boat. Also, a pontoon boat seems like a great idea because it has more room and is comfortable for everyone. There’s just too much to attempt to comprehend and the prices of boats make it easy to hold off and just keep fishing instead.

In the meantime, I’ll be looking for an electric motor. Preferably one that is not made by Minn Kota if possible. I have had a few bad experiences with their customer service and products over these last couple years.

I hear MotorGuide come up in many conversations lately, so I might be looking for one of those to try.
