Date night 2019.
My wife is awesome! Tonight, we went on a date night to the lake and went fishing.
We were fishing by 730pm and fished until 930 or 10pm. The lake was choppy at first as the last of the ski boats made their laps with their music cranked. I would have to say that as much as I dislike some of the monsoon type waves these boats make, I have come to appreciate their music from a distance and it has become a part of the night time fishery on Ten Mile. The music and setting sun create an mood that are soothing as the boats leave the lake and the last bite turns on.
The first thing I noticed when we got on the lake tonight was all the debris on the surface. It looked as if the bottom of the lake had let loose and floated to the surface. This seems to happen every year and I’m not entirely sure if it’s from the last of a violent storm or the lake turning completely and getting ready to set a firm thermocline. Maybe it’s because the lake is shallow and wind action turns up the dead vegetation?
We managed to find fish at a few different depths. First, we found them at 15ft. They were marking at 30ft, but the active fish were at 15ft. Second, we caught one at 20ft. And third, we caught the remaining fish at the end of the night at 8ft.
We ended up switching gear a few times and the winning lure was a pink Old Goat lure. We put one on each rod and each rod was successful. The rod with the Brad’s extreme dodger had the most hits. The second dodger that was working was a pink/purple Kokabow dodger. Our shrimp scented corn and TJ’S anise corn worked its magic again.
One of the fish we caught had to be released and probably did not make it. However, due to the regulations, we had to release it, because it somehow foul hooked itself when biting our lure. I have never seen them hook themselves like this one did. Usually, its trout that foul hook themselves. Hopefully the ospreys or eagles find it later and have a nice meal.
To finish off our date night, we did what every date needs. We went for a dessert. Unfortunately, McDonald’s was the only place open so we each had Skor Mcflurry. A perfect finish to a perfect date night. Hopefully one of many more this summer.
