Corn is one of the main baits used while kokanee fishing. Most people who use corn swear by Shoepeg corn. The kernels are whiter and the kernels are supposed to be tougher.

We have not been able to find Shoepeg corn in Canada over the years. We heard peaches and cream corn is a great alternative, so one day we tried it. The kernels take on color and scent well (we haven’t used shoepeg corn too often so do not notice a difference).

Our main objective for using corn is to have a focal point for kokanee to bite. The corn also serves as a scent chamber for whatever scent we choose.

Garlic Bloody Tuna, Bloody Tuna, Krill, Shrimp and Anise are all great scents to use for kokanee. There are many manufactures who make great products for us to use.
