October 31st. Ten Mile lake.
It was a challenge finding kokanee this morning. I marked many fish on the finder from 7ft to 24ft. The average depth was 9ft.
I tried the down rigger and top lining. This kokanee was caught long lining on a tried and true Kokabow dodger and Kokabow spinner. I tried many setups and tried slowing the presentations down and speeding them up thru the fish. I will post all the setups i tried. Only 2 fish landed. One kokanee and one rainbow on the Macks lure humdinger.
An upgrade to my fish finder setup might help locate more fish; however, most smaller fish were rolling on the surface. I assume the majority of the fish were in the top 15ft of the water column. Perhaps today might have been a good day to try kokanee on the fly rod. (Maybe next time)
I learned three things today:
1.Kokanee fishing in the fall in the northern Cariboo has not caught on yet. I had the whole lake to myself.
2. Calm flat water with no one around is very relaxing as you watch fish rise all around you, even five feet from the boat.
3. When it starts hailing and you are motoring back to the boat launch to beat the storm, don’t get hail in you eyeball. It hurts! (Goggles are needed next time).
Great day on the water. Now to eat this fresh kokanee for lunch. From lake to plate.
