Best date night EVER with Sarah!!!

With grandma visiting and our boys needing an early bedtime, we decided to hit 10 mile lake after dinner. We hit the water around 7pm and brought our last fish in the boat at 9:30 pm. We were not sure what time the gate was being closed at the campground and got off the water so we wouldn’t have to spend the night.

We tried the “other side” of the lake searching for the “pigs” James was speaking about and I think we found them.

After trying numerous setups (some not shown in the pictures) we found what the kokanee wanted. We tried sling blades, a Williams Wabler spoon, a Mack’s Double D dodger, and a Kokabow dodger. We tried Kokabow pink spinners, Mack’s wiggle bill with pink corky, Mack’s smile blade with pink corky, and a Mack’s kok-a-nut. Unfortunately, I only had one of each of the winning ticket items of a dodger and spinner hoochie (this is why I need to buy things in pairs). The winning combination tonight was a Chartreuse/Orange Kokabow dodger paired with an orange Kokabow spinner hoochie. Thank you Alan for making this great gear. It made for an exciting evening.

We switched things up tonight with the bait and went with yellow Pautzke fire corn.

We tried multiple depths as the fish were scattered everywhere when we found the school. The winning depth was 9ft off the rigger. Fish were concentrated around 11-14ft the most.

We lost some really nice fish at the boat too. These fish have some great aerobatic and feisty fight in them. I swept too shallow and bonked one kokanee on the nose and he went crazy! He dove and then jumped and twisted. He got off while twisting and kept doing the kokanee twist on the surface for 10ft as our boat slowly drifted away.

Our last fish of the night was caught while setting the ground rules for when to “pull anchor.” Instead of “x” more casts, I laid down a 100ft target. We hooked our last fish at 9:30 pm and shut off the electric motor and fought a feisty 10 mile lake kokanee under a Cariboo sunset, a calm lake and the sound of a loon in the background (well, maybe not a loon but people around a campfire).

Did I say, BEST DATE NIGHT EVER with my wife.
