I love the wind!!!

It’s official. The wind is my new favorite when kokanee fishing. The wind picked up today and I had the whole lake to myself.

Ten Mile Lake. All of a sudden, the kokanee appear out of no where. A great day on the lake before work. Landed 4 kokanee (had to let one go because it was hooked in the back – hopefully it’s loon food if it doesn’t make it).

I lost 2 nice kokanee at the boat due to aerobatic maneuvers and no extra deck hand to manage the net. I also landed 10 rainbows and lost at least 8 more kokanee out away from the boat.

I was fishing 9ft off the downrigger and the usual set back of around 80ft. I have a new favorite lure that I tried out today. I tried it on a small sling blade with short leader and a larger sling blade with longer leader. The small sling blade with short leader out fished the larger sling blade, barely.

My new favorite method for fishing in the wind is to drift with the wind. I run the boat straight with the wind and slowly troll with my electric motor. Most fish hit while speeding up slightly after I went over a school.
