A quick limit of kokanee on 10 Mile lake tonight. From the moment I talked to my wife about going for a quick outing and giving my kids and hug goodnight, to the moment all the gear and fish were put away in the freezer, my personal best time was 3hrs from start to finish.
I caught my limit in under an hour of being on the water. I also lost 3 kokanee and landed a rainbow. There was only one boat on the lake other than myself. I was marking huge schools of fish in the first area I chose to try. They were from 9ft to 15ft.
The first fish was caught before I could even get my first rod in the downrigger clip. I had the line in my hand and felt the tug so I quickly reeled it in to start and frantically got my line back in the water. Two fish were caught by raising the downrigger ball 1ft and 2ft. Another fish was triggered to hit by speeding up. I also set my line back approximately the same distance and depth (I don’t have line counters yet) to simulate fish feeding to help stimulate a strike. Lastly, the 5th fish was caught on a double header. I was fighting one fish when the other rod went off. I quickly loosened the drag and proceeded to attempt to land the first fish while the second one danced on the water over a sunset horizon. The first fish got off right at the boat, but the second fish wasn’t so lucky. I reeled her in and made a quick netting job to seal the deal on my limit and called it a night before sundown.
Can’t wait to get out there soon. (Tomorrow if I’m lucky or Monday morning) Speaking of lucky, I’m going to try out some Lucky Bugs next trip and see how I do with them.
Due to time constraints, I used all the same gear as my last outing. Kokabow dodgers, a Mack’s hoochie and P-Line sunrise squid both tipped with pink Pautzke fire corn were the ticket.
There is nothing more rewarding and enjoyable than a quick limit and the sound of 2 loons on the lakes’ edge while you pack up to head home and the watch the sunset in the distance.
