It took a while to find a group of decent sized kokanee today. Once I found them, it also took a while to narrow down what they were after until the “bite” came on.
I tried lots of lure and dodger combinations today. My challenge was to not use a hoochie, but of course I ended up trying one in the end.
The winning combination was a pink Gibbs dog tail dodger paired with a pink God’s tooth lure. Another fish was caught with a Gibbs dog tail dodger and a pink Mack’s imperial. However, the pink Gods tooth lure was getting hit non stop. I was not using any bait and was looking most fish at the boat.
I had given my last bit of corn to a nice couple yesterday and when I went to check on my corn it was going moldy in the fridge? I’m not sure if this was because I’ve had the corn in and out of the fridge, but my sneaking suspicion lies with the packaging. I use a sealed container in my tackle box, but had my corn sealed in zip lock bags. I think next time I will stay away from zip lock bags.
Most kokanee were caught at 19ft off the downrigger. My speed was 1.4 to 2mph today. It was windy and I was staying “on the school” so higher speeds in the wind were necessary.
Another great day to be on the water.
